ARSENAL SET TO FACE TRANSFER TARGET

Struggling Premier League giants Arsenal will face one of their transfer targets after the draw for the Europa League round of 32 was done on Monday. The Gunners were one of the top seeds ahead of the Europa League last 32 draw and they eventually got a tricky fixture against Portuguese club Benfica. The two legged tie between Arsenal and Benfica will take place in February 2021 as the two clubs will fight to secure a place in the round of 16.

Benfica star Darwin Nunez is one of the young strikers emerging on the European football scene and he’s said to be a top target for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta ahead of next summer. Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette is expected to leave the Gunners at the end of this season as he would have one year left to run on his contract with the Emirates Stadium outfit. To this effect, Arsenal will listen to offers for the Frenchman to avoid the situation of not getting a transfer fee for him. French international Lacazette signed for Arsenal from Lyon for a club-record transfer fee of £47m as at 2017. The Gunners would be looking to recoup a fraction of the money spent on him. Since his transfer, Arsenal have broken their transfer record on two occasions.

Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez is said to be on the radar of Mikel Arteta and Arsenal according to the report from Four Four Two. Darwin Nunez has scored six goals plus six assists in 15 games in all competitions in the colours of Benfica and he’s expected to be the main threat to the Gunners’ quest to qualify for the round of 16 in the Europa League. Arsenal have a perfect record in the Europa League this season but they have not been able to reprise that good form in the league.
